Soccer Gears Up for Senior Weekend

Setting the Scene
- The SWOSU Soccer team will play their final home contests of the 2018 season this weekend as they host Harding on Thursday and Ouachita on Saturday
- Saturday's match will be Senior Day and the Bulldogs will honor 11 senior players prior to the start of the match
- The Bulldogs have shut out each of their opponents in the previous matches and look to continue that streak this weekend
- SWOSU has punched their ticket to the Great American Conference tournament and they will look to land the top seed in the tournament
 
The Opponents
Harding (5-7, 5-3 GAC)
- The Bisons saw their three-game win streak snapped after a 2-0 loss to Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday
- Harding outscored their opponents during the win streak 12-4 while allowing just a .112 shot percentage
- The Bisons are third in the GAC in goals scored netting a total of 24 goals this season
 
Ouachita (6-7, 4-4 GAC)
- Ouachita put a tally in the win column in their last match after defeating Southern Nazarene 3-0 on Saturday
- The Tigers are second in the conference in saves with 91 on the season and have a goals against average of 1.54
- Ashlyn Heckman is the leading goal scorer for Ouachita, recording five goals this season
 
Around the League
- Oklahoma Baptist currently sits at the top of the conference and has clinched a spot in the GAC tournament
- SWOSU holds the second spot and has also clinched their spot for the post season
- Harding currently holds a one-game lead over Ouachita for the third spot in the standings
 
The Coaches
SWOSU: Mark Persson (102-66-21; 10th season)
- Since taking over the program in 2009, Persson has become the winningest coach in SWOSU Soccer history
- Persson's teams have won three regular season Great American Conference Championships and three GAC Tournament championships
- He has coached three All-Americans, 24 all-region players and numerous all-conference players in his time in Weatherford
- Coach Persson won his 100th game as the Bulldogs head coach against his alma mater Southern Nazarene on Oct. 4, 2018
 
HU: Greg Harris (138-158-25; 18th season)
- Harris is in his 18th season leading the Bison
- He has been named Coach of the Year six times during his tenure
- Coach Harris has coached 24 all-region selections and numerous all-conference selections during his time at Harding
 
OUA: Kevin Wright (57-60-6; 6th season)
- Wright enters his sixth season at the helm of the Tigers
- He was previously the head men's coach at Howard Payne
- Wright was also previously the head men's soccer coach at Ouachita from 2012-2014
 
SWOSU Notes
- The Bulldogs come into the weekend after defeating Northwestern Oklahoma State and East Central
- Memory Phiri was named the GAC Offensive Player of the Week after her performance last week, which included scoring a goal in each game
- Alimata Rabo scored her 16th goal of the season against Northwestern Oklahoma State and she currently is second in Division II in goals scored
- Sandra Nabweteme leads the Bulldogs in assists with nine passes that have led to goals this season
- Steffi Silvera has been stellar in goal for SWOSU with a goals against average of 1.07
- Erica Brunet and Nicole Petrino have been instrumental in leading a SWOSU defense that has held opponents to 10.8 shots a game and a shot percentage of .099
- The Bulldogs as a team have scored 45 goals this season leading the GAC in that category
