Bulldog Soccer Set to Host East Central in Home Conference Opener

Setting the Scene:
- SWOSU Soccer (4-1-1) hosts its first GAC conference match against East Central on Sunday, September 25 at the Athletic Complex
- The match is scheduled for a 1 pm start time
- The Bulldogs are 10-11-2 all-time against the Tigers, but 8-3-1 in the Coach Persson era including 2-0 last season
 
The Coaches:
SWOSU: Mark Persson (68-55-12; 8th season)
- Since taking over the program in 2009, Persson has amassed a 68-55-12 record, 
becoming the all-time winningest coach in program history
- Persson also led the Bulldogs to back-to-back GAC Championships in 2012 and 2013
- A two time All-Conference Coach of the Year, Persson holds a 37-24-7 record in GAC play
- He has coached one All-American, 12 All-Region players, and numerous All-Conference players during his time in Weatherford
 
ECU: Riley Bailey (79-70-11; 8th season)
- Coach Bailey led the Tigers to Great American Conference regular season and postseason tournament championships in 2011 and to the GAC semifinals in 2012.
- Prior to his head coaching duties at ECU, Bailey spent eight seasons as the Tigers assistant coach, 1998-2000 and 2004-08
- He also coached one All-American player, several all-conference players and numerous academic all-conference award winners
 
The Opponent
- East Central is 0-4-1 so far this season, but still remain 0-0 in GAC play
- ECU went 5-13 in 2015, earning four of those five wins during the GAC part of their schedule
- Kylee Corbin has scored the lone goal on the season for the Tigers against Northeastern State
- Goalkeeper Chloe Hull has given up 10 goals and collected 30 saves through the first five games for ECU, with one shutout to her credit
 
Bulldog Facts
- In Tuesday's (Sept. 20) match against Northwestern, Alimata Rabo broke the SWOSU scoring record for goals in a season after scoring her 13th goal
- Rabo also leads all NCAA Division II in goals this season (13)
- SWOSU's attack ranks 1st in Division II, averaging 5.60 goals per game
- Sandra Nabweteme (5), Olivia Butler (4), and Rabo (5) all rank in the top three among many players in Division II for assists  
- 10 different Bulldogs have scored a goal this season
-  Erica Brunet has won two Defensive Player of the Week awards so far this season for the GAC
- Rabo and Nabweteme have each won Offensive Player of the Week awards once this season
 
Looking Ahead
- The Bulldogs (4-1-1, 1-0 GAC) will hit the road to Arkansas when they play Ouachita Baptist on Thursday (Sept. 29) and Harding on Saturday (Oct. 1)
- SWOSU will have its next home game on Thursday, October 6 against Southern Nazarene at 3 pm
