Setting the Stage
- SWOSU Softball (15-29, 13-21 GAC) has 10 games remaining in the regular season as they attempt to reach the GAC Tournament for the first time since 2013
- The Bulldogs head north to Alva to face Northwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday, in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 pm
- SWOSU swept a doubleheader against the Rangers on March 29 in Weatherford, coming from behind in both games with a walkoff home run to win the night cap
 
The Opponent
Northwestern Oklahoma State (9-33, 7-25 GAC)
- The Rangers enter the doubleheader in 11th place in the GAC standings, but not yet eliminated from postseason contention although they trail SWOSU and Southern Nazarene by six games for eighth
- NWOSU ranks 12th in the league in hitting with a .225 team batting average and their pitching staff has a combined ERA of 4.91, ranking 11th among league schools
 
The Coaches
SWOSU: Barbara Burnett (23-66, 2nd season)
- In her second season as the head coach at her alma mater, having taken over after four seasons as the head softball coach at Independence Community College
 
Northwestern Oklahoma State: Charlie Zeilman (9-33, 1st season)
- Came to Northwestern after four years at LSU Alexandria, where he led the program to their first conference championship, regional championship and NAIA World Series appearance
 
SWOSU Notes
- SWOSU is coming off a series split with Ouachita that improved their record to 11-7 at home this season
- The Bulldogs are currently deadlocked with Southern Nazarene for the final spot in the conference tournament and SWOSU holds the tiebreaker with SNU thanks to a 3-1 series win in Weatherford in March
- Taylor Eaves picked up both wins against Northwestern in the previous doubleheader, holding the Rangers scoreless with just four hits in 5.2 innings of relief work
- Samantha Householder was SWOSU's top hitter in the doubleheader with three hits, including a double, in five at-bats
- Taya Haney had the most memorable at-bat of the twin bill as she launched a walkoff home run off the scoreboard to win game two 5-4
 
Looking Ahead
- SWOSU Softball hosts No. 5 Arkansas Tech this weekend in their final home series of the season, with Saturday's doubleheader being Senior Day at the Athletic Complex
