Soccer Closes Out First Half of GAC Play Against Oklahoma Baptist

Setting the Scene:
- SWOSU Soccer (7-2-1, 4-1 GAC) concludes their first 'go around' in conference play by hosting Oklahoma Baptist at 1 pm on Saturday out at the Athletic Complex
- Last season the Bulldogs swept the Lady Bison 2-0 in the regular season, beating them by scores of 2-0 and 1-0
- SWOSU has only played OBU three times in the Division II era, with an overall record of 2-1 over the Lady Bison dating back to 2014
 
The Coaches:
SWOSU: Mark Persson (68-55-12; 8th season)
- Since taking over the program in 2009, Persson has amassed a 68-55-12 record, 
becoming the all-time winningest coach in program history
- Persson also led the Bulldogs to back-to-back GAC Championships in 2012 and 2013
- A two time All-Conference Coach of the Year, Persson holds a 37-24-7 record in GAC play
- He has coached one All-American, 12 All-Region players, and numerous All-Conference players during his time in Weatherford
 
Oklahoma Baptist: Mike White (67-56-8; 8th season)
- White took the helm for the Lady Bison in 2009, after being the assistant for two years
- Coach White's 2014 squad won the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament which led to the school's first ever NAIA National Tournament appearance
- He coaches competitive soccer for the Norman Youth Soccer Association in the fall and spring and during the winter months he directs the Bison Winter Futsal league at OBU's wellness center to raise money for the Lady Bisons' annual mission trips
 
The Opponent:
Oklahoma Baptist (6-3, 3-2 GAC)
- The Lady Bison currently sit in fourth place in the Great American Conference standings
- Last season Oklahoma Baptist went 6-11 with victories over East Central and Northwestern Oklahoma State twice for their three conference wins
- Abigail Hicks and Ruth King lead the attack for OBU, each collecting three goals scores so far this season
- Lady Bison goalkeeper Emma Beck has conceded 11 goals in eight games guarding the net
 
Bulldog Facts:
- After netting two more goals against SNU, Sandra Nabweteme has now scored 14 goals this season moving her into second place in NCAA Division II and one behind fellow teammate and D2 leading Alimata Rabo (15)
- Nabweteme ranks fifth in assists in the NCAA with seven so far this season
- With their 2-0 blanking over SNU, Courtney Flores and the Bulldog defense have now shutout five opponents in 2016
- SWOSU is tied for second with Harding in the GAC standings with 12 points, three points behind Ouachita who has played an extra conference game
 
Looking Ahead:
- The Bulldogs will play Northwestern Oklahoma State for the second time this season, this time at home, on Saturday, October 11 at 3 pm
-  Two days later, SWOSU will hit the road to Ada, Okla. to face off against East Central
