SWOSU Softball Season Ends in Arkansas

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The 2014 SWOSU softball season ended with three consecutive defeats after the Bulldogs were swept by Southern Arkansas on Saturday by scores of 6-2 and 9-0 in five innings.
 
The Bulldogs end the season with a record of 13-39 (9-31 GAC) and without qualifying for the Great American Conference Tournament for the first time since the formation of the conference. The win total is also the lowest for the program since 2009.

SWOSU had just five hits in the opener, but Caitlyn Deason went 3-for-3 at the plate, including a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning, her lone long ball of the season.
 
Southern Arkansas scored once in the first inning, three times in the third and twice in the fourth to build a comfortable 6-0 lead heading into the final inning. Julianne Martinez lasted just three innings before Jordan Haney tossed the final three, but it was Martinez taking the loss to fall to 9-19 on the year.

The final game ended quickly as the Muleriders jumped all over SWOSU, scoring all nine runs in the first three innings and coasted to the victory. The Bulldogs were held to just three hits in the game and never advanced a runner past second base.
 
Mallory Davis, Molly Vivo and Martinez all saw time in the circle, but it was Davis who took the loss after starting and tossing 1.1 innings, allowing five runs.
