WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The SWOSU softball team had a two-run lead midway through the opener of a series against East Central on Friday but the Dawgs were held without a run from that point on as the Tigers earned a sweep by scores of 5-2 and 9-0 in a six-inning run-rule victory.
East Central 5, SWOSU 2Box Score The Bulldogs built a 2-0 lead after four innings but they were done in by ECU in the fifth as they scored five runs on four hits, including the go-ahead grand slam by Samantha McGraw with two outs. Outside of that inning, ECU had just three hits but they got all they needed in the fifth.
SWOSU scored on an RBI single from
Adrienne Martinez in the third and another one from
Makensy Payne in the fourth inning. The Dawgs, however, would not record a hit after the fourth inning and they finished the game with six total.
Julianne Martinez allowed seven hits and five earned runs as she falls to 6-15 on the year.
East Central 9, SWOSU 0 (6 inn.)Box Score SWOSU was held to just four hits in game two while allowing seven runs in the final two innings as East Central capitalized for the run-rule win.
Molly Vivo started and lasted 5.0 innings but suffered the loss – dropping to 3-9 on the year – after allowing nine hits and six earned runs.
Jordan Haney pitched the sixth inning and allowed three runs on four hits.
East Central scored two runs in the second inning, four in the fifth and three in the sixth to secure the run-rule.
SWOSU and East Central will return to the Athletic Complex on Saturday to conclude the series with a noon doubleheader. In between games, the Bulldogs will honor the lone senior on the squad,
Julianne Martinez, with Senior Day recognition.
