Bats Come Alive as Bulldogs Earn Split with Northwestern

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Two strong pitching efforts, combined with 19 hits offensively helped the SWOSU softball team earn a split with Northwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday. The Rangers – in second place in the GAC – took game one 7-4 before the Bulldogs responded and won game two 5-3.

Northwestern scored five runs in the final two innings to break open a 2-1 game in the first outing. The Rangers had 12 hits to 10 for SWOSU, who scored three runs in the seventh inning to make the final margin of three.
 
Caitlyn Deason was 3-for-4 from the plate with one RBI while Ashley Filer had two hits and one RBI as well. Julianne Martinez fell to 6-9 after allowing 12 hits and seven runs – six earned – while walking five batters and striking out two.

Nikki Brandt had a huge game to lift SWOSU offensively in the night cap. Brandt was 3-for-4 at the plate with RBI singles in the first and third innings and a solo home run – her team-leading third of the season – in the fifth.
 
Jordan Haney added an RBI double in the fifth as SWOSU kept Northwestern on the ropes all game. Molly Vivo earned her first win of the season after holding the Rangers to six hits and three runs (two earned) in a complete-game effort.
 
 
SWOSU is back in action at home this weekend, hosting Arkansas Tech for conference doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
