Comeback Win Earns Softball Series Split

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Ouachita Baptist scored three runs in the eighth inning of game one to secure a 4-1 victory but SWOSU came-from-behind to score the final four runs in the second game, earning an 8-7 victory to split the conference series on Saturday afternoon.

The low-scoring opener went to extra innings tied at 1-1 and Ouachita Baptist had their biggest inning against Julianne Martinez in the eighth. The Tigers hit three straight doubles in the inning and scored three runs for the 4-1 victory.
 
SWOSU was limited to six hits in the game, with Courtney Miller going 2-for-3 and Ashley Dunnigan scoring the lone run after a leadoff triple in the third inning. Martinez took the loss, falling to 6-8 after allowing six hits and four earned runs in 8.0 innings of work.

The offense opened up in game two as SWOSU scored three in the first inning before OBU responded with six runs in the top of the second inning. The Bulldogs were left battling back and scored one run in the fifth and three in the bottom of the sixth to finally come all the way back and take an 8-7 lead.
 
Dunigan and Molly Vivo each had three hits for SWOSU and both singled in the critical three-run sixth inning. Caitlyn Deason had the go-ahead hit, singling to score Nikki Brandt with two outs in the inning. Adrienne Martinez also had a three-hit afternoon and a trio of RBI.
 
Vivo got the start but lasted just 1.2 innings before Jordan Haney came in and completed the game. Haney earned the win, improving to 2-1 on the year, after holding OBU to four hits and one unearned run in 5.1 innings of action.
 
 
SWOSU is now 8-20 (4-12 GAC) on the year heading into a midweek doubleheader against Northwestern Oklahoma State at home on Tuesday afternoon.
