Softball Dropped Twice by Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – SWOSU softball opened their conference series with Henderson State on Friday but it was the Lady Reddies who came out on top, defeating SWOSU twice, by scores of 7-2 and 6-3. The losses extend the Lady Bulldogs winless streak to six games and they're now 5-15 (2-8 GAC) on the year.

Ashley Filer and Adrienne Martinez combined for five of the Bulldogs seven hits in the game, but it was only enough to get two runs across the plate. The Lady Reddies built a 7-0 lead after five innings and SWOSU got both of their runs in the sixth, when Martinez scored on an error had an RBI single that scored Caitlyn Deason.
 
Julianne Martinez was tagged with the loss after allowing seven hits and seven runs, but all seven were unearned after her defense committed four errors in the field. Martinez falls to 4-6 on the year.

Ashley Dunigan led off game two with a single and eventually scored on an RBI single from Martinez, giving the Bulldogs their first lead of the day but it would be short lived once HSU came to bat in the bottom of the inning and scored two runs of their own. The Reddies added heree in the third and one in the fifth before SWOSU again went on the offensive attack.
 
Deason and Filer had RBI hits in the top of the sixth inning to get the Dawgs back within three at 6-3, but that was the closest they would get. Molly Vivo threw a complete game and took the loss after allowing six hits and four earned runs and she drops to 0-4 on the year.
 
 
The Bulldogs and Lady Reddies will play earlier on Saturday in an attempt to beat the weather. First pitch in the doubleheader is now slated for 11 am in Arkadelphia.
