Martinez’s No-Hitter Highlights Split with SNU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – After dropping the opening game of a four-game series against Southern Nazarene, SWOSU rebounded with a 3-0 shutout win against the Crimson Storm that saw Julianna Martinez not allow a hit.
 
The Bulldogs are now 5-9 (2-4 GAC) on the year heading into Saturday's noon doubleheader against Southern Nazarene that will be the series finale.

Nikki Brandt gave SWOSU the lead in the first inning with an RBI infield single that scored Ashley Dunigan first, but SNU scored two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to gain control of the game.
 
Dunigan led off the third inning with a triple and scored on an error and she then had an RBI single in the fourth inning as SWOSU tried to claw back into the game. The Bulldogs added their final run on a sacrifice fly by Ashley Filer in the fifth, but SNU got three insurance runs in the seventh inning to put the game away.
 
Molly Vivo started and threw 4.2 innings before Mallory Davis and Jordan Haney came on in relief. Vivo was saddled with the loss after allowing five hits and four earned runs. SWOSU committed three errors in the game which allowed the Crimson Storm to score two of their runs.

The first three batters of the game for SWOSU reached base and two came around to score, putting the Bulldogs in control early. Brandt and Kendall Smith both had RBI hits in the inning, setting up Julianne Martinez with more than enough run support.
 
That was because Martinez was lights out in the circle, forcing 10 ground outs and six fly outs from the 23 batters she faced. She walked one batter and hit another with a pitch, as well as working around an error in the first inning, but did not allow a hit. Martinez also struck out four Crimson Storm batters on her way to improving to 4-3 on the year.
 
Smith added an RBI single in the third inning that scored Adrienne Martinez and gave SWOSU their third run of the game.
