SWOSU Softball Earns Saturday Split with UAM

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – After tough Friday losses, SWOSU softball earned a split with Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday. UAM took the first game 11-6 before the Bulldogs fought off the sweep by claiming a 4-1 win in the series finale.

After falling behind 6-0, the Bulldogs used a five-run fifth inning to get back into the game before UAM put the game away with five runs of their own in the seventh. Nikki Brandt was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and Courtney Miller and Adrienne Martinez also had two-hit games.
 
Mallory Davis made the start and last 3.0 innings before Jordan Haney came on to finish the game. Davis took the loss, falling to 0-4 on the year, after allowing four hits and five earned runs.

SWOSU seized control of game two in the third inning as Ashley Dunigan singled to center field but took advantage of an error by Arkansas-Monticello that allowed three runs to score on the play, including Dunigan who touched them all.
 
The Bulldogs added their fourth run in the fifth inning on an RBI double from Adrienne Martinez that plated Dunigan and made the advantage 4-0. UAM picked up their run in the seventh inning, but not before the game was out of reach.
 
Julianne Martinez earned the win, moving to 3-3 on the year, by tossing a complete-game four hitter, allowing just one run and striking out two.
 
 
SWOSU is now 4-8 (1-3 GAC) on the year following their first conference series. The Bulldogs return to action next weekend with a four-game home series against Southern Nazarene on Friday and Saturday.
