Box Score 2 BENTONVILLE, Ark. – After a tough opening loss to Missouri Western, the SWOSU softball team rebounded to shut out Northwest Missouri State at the 8-State Classic and improve to 2-2 on the season.

Missouri Western built a 3-0 lead after two innings before the Bulldogs responded with two runs in the third.
Makensy Payne had an RBI single in the inning that scored
Courtney Miller before
Nikki Brandt brought Payne around on a triple to right field.
The Griffons upped their lead with runs in the fourth and fifth innings before
Adrienne Martinez hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to get SWOSU back within two for the final margin.
Mallory Davis tossed the first four innings of the game, allowing seven hits and four runs – three of which were earned – and she took the loss, falling to 0-2 on the year.
Molly Vivo relieved Davis for the final three innings and she allowed three hits and one run.

A three-run single from
Kendall Smith in the first inning set the tone as the Bulldogs scored all four of their runs in the top of the opening inning.
Ashley Dunigan also scored in the inning on an RBI hit from
Ashley Filer, and SWOSU was on their way with a 4-0 lead from the get go.
Julianne Martinez would take care of the rest, tossing a complete-game shutout, allowing just six hits while striking out four. Martinez improved to 2-0 on the year with the win.
The SWOSU offense provided little support after the first inning, but the four-run cushion was all that Martinez needed. The Bulldogs finished the game with just four hits, and only one of them came in the final six innings.
After Friday's action, SWOSU sits 2-2 on the year. They return to action in Bentonville on Saturday against Rockhurst and Emporia State, taking the field for the first game at 1:30 pm.
