WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Nine SWOSU soccer seniors made sure that Friday afternoon would not be their final home match as the Bulldogs clinched their second consecutive Great American Conference championship with a 2-0 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State. With the victory, the Bulldogs have earned the right to host the conference tournament next weekend.

The Bulldogs held a commanding edge offensively, attempting 30 shots and 13 shots on goal while limiting Northwestern to just two shot attempts and one shot on goal. Eva Rule put SWOSU on top in the 40th minute after Miranda Balezentis found her in front for a short goal.

Cori Kelly scored her first goal of the season in the 81st minute off another assist from Balezentis, putting SWOSU on top 2-0 and in command for good. In total, 13 players attempted a shot for SWOSU, led by five from Kelsey Visor, four from Jessica Carbonara and three apiece from Ashley McMahon, Paige Doherty and Payton Warren.

Courtney Flores was rarely challenged in goal, but she earned the sixth shutout of her freshman season after making one save. Flores improved her record to 8-2-2 on the year.

SWOSU improves to 11-3-2 on the year and at 7-1-1 they clinched a second consecutive GAC Championship. The Bulldogs will travel to Midwestern State on Sunday for a critical non-conference match that could help to determine SWOSU's postseason fate. That game will start at 3 pm in Wichita Falls.
