First Half Goals Propel Dawgs to 4-2 Victory over Harding

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – An early onslaught of goals from the Southwestern Oklahoma State University soccer team allowed the Bulldogs to dominate Harding 4-2 on Friday afternoon in Great American Conference action.


 
Kelsey Visor got the scoring started early with a rebound goal in the seventh minute for a 1-0 lead. Miranda Balezentis had back-to-back goals in the 34th and 37th minutes which allowed SWOSU to take a commanding 3-0 to the break. Early in the second half, Samantha Nunez found Visor in front for her second goal of the game and a 4-0 lead.
 
Harding added goals from Melissa Minnich in the 59th minute and Averie Albright in the final minute to cut the lead to 4-2 at the match's conclusion.
 
The Bulldogs had a large advantage in the shot department, taking 25 shots for the match with 11 of them on goal. Alexis Russell led the way with six shots while Visor had four and three players – Balezentis, Jessica Carbonara and Nunez – each took three.
 
Courtney Flores allowed two goals and made one save in the match but picked up the win to improve to 4-1-1 on the year.
 
SWOSU improves to 5-2-1 (2-0 GAC) on the year with the victory heading into a showdown with Ouachita Baptist on Sunday. OBU entered play Friday with a record of 6-1 overall and tied with the Bulldogs at 1-0 in conference play. That match will begin at 1 pm on Sunday at the Athletic Complex in Weatherford.
