The Bulldogs return to the SWOSU Athletic Complex this weekend for a pivotal three-game Great American Conference series against Henderson State. With two weekends remaining in the regular season and the Dawgs one game back of the postseason cutoff, SWOSU will need to continue its recent winning ways to earn a spot in the conference tournament.
This weekend's action begins with a single game on Friday, April 17, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a Saturday doubleheader starting at noon. Henderson State is also battling for postseason positioning, currently sitting seventh in the standings and two games ahead of SWOSU.
SWOSU enters the weekend with plenty of momentum, riding a five-game winning streak. The Bulldogs have won seven of their last eight, including last weekend's GAC sweep of Ouachita Baptist. The surge has pushed SWOSU to a 22-20 overall record as it looks to climb further in the conference standings.
Historically, the Reddies have held the upper hand in the series. Henderson State leads the all-time series 29-13 and has won nine of the last 10 matchups. The Bulldogs' last series win came at home in 2022. Of the five series SWOSU has won since 2012, four have come in Weatherford. The Dawgs will look to once again take advantage of their home field this weekend.
The SWOSU offense is currently clicking, led by Keaton Fisher, who paces the team with a .414 batting average. Fisher is 26-for-48 (.542) at the plate dating back to the Southern Arkansas series in late March. Landon Meyer (.378) ranks second on the team in batting average and leads the Bulldogs in hits (62), runs (55), and RBI (43). Four additional players are hitting .300 or better, contributing to SWOSU's .328 team batting average — second-best in the GAC.
The Dawgs will need to stay aggressive against a Henderson State pitching staff that ranks fourth in the league with a 5.89 ERA and leads the GAC by holding opponents to a .262 batting average. The Reddies enter the weekend looking to snap a three-game skid and improve on their 13-14 conference record. Offensively, Henderson State is led by Tanner Ross, who is hitting .342 and is tied for third in the GAC with 14 home runs.
On the mound, SWOSU will look for continued strong outings from Josh Doelitsch, Garrett Folmar, and Jared Adams. The trio each threw 7.0 innings in last week's sweep of Ouachita. Doelitsch has gone seven or more innings in each of his last two starts.
