SWOSU looks to bounce back after four straight losses and returns home to host the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas over Spring Break weekend. The doubleheader portion of the series will be held Friday, beginning at noon. Game three will conclude the series on Saturday at 1:00 pm, an hour later than the originally scheduled noon slot.
The Dawgs were swept in Magnolia, Arkansas, in last season's series. They won the last home series in 2024, taking games one and three. Since 2012, SWOSU is 14-29 against the Muleriders, and 10-14 at home.
The Bulldog offense remains hot overall, still second in the GAC in batting average (.344). All seven players who meet statistical requirements bat over .300, led by
Landon Meyer (.427). Three players are in the top 10 of the conference in hits.
Nolan McCrossin leads the GAC in RBIs with 35 on the season. SWOSU batted just .250 as a team in last weekend's sweep at Arkansas-Monticello. The Dawgs lost to East Central earlier in the week, but the lineup still managed 15 hits.
Despite being near the top of the conference in runs per game, the Dawgs have been unable to capitalize in many of their high-scoring affairs. Their pitching ranks near the bottom in the GAC, currently 11th in ERA (8.67). That number jumps to 9.13 across 15 conference games.
Garrett Folmar continues to be one of SWOSU's best arms, posting a 2.05 ERA in 22.0 innings of work. Across his nine appearances, he's allowed just six runs, while striking out 16 batters. He will look to bounce back from a relief outing against UAM that saw him surrender four runs in just two thirds of an inning.
Southern Arkansas enters the weekend at 16-9 overall, and second in the GAC at 11-4 in conference play. Most recently, they won a home series against Northwestern 2-1, before dropping a midweek game against Henderson State on Tuesday. The Muleriders are the exact opposite of the Dawgs, landing 10th in the league in batting average (.272), but ranking first in ERA at 4.83.
Wyatt Fielding (.416 batting average, 37 hits) leads SAU offensively. Eli Hutcherson has gone 3-2 in seven starts, posting a 3.79 ERA in 38.0 innings.
