Win over SAU Caps 3-0 Week

WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Women's Basketball capped off a 3-0 week with a 58-41 victory over Southern Arkansas after holding the Muleriders to just 41 points, a season low for a Lady Dawg opponent.

The Lady Dawgs had this massive week at the right time as they now sit at 12-13 overall with an even .500 record in conference play at 10-10. They are now tied for sixth with East Central in the conference with a chance to play them on Thursday to go for the season sweep over the Tigers. They are now one game ahead of the group of teams fighting for the eighth and final spot in the GAC Tournament.

SWOSU jumped out quick to start the game, holding an 11-2 advantage before the first media timeout. The first quarter was highlighted by six jump balls as neither team could string together successful possessions. The Lady Dawgs took a 28-22 lead into the break. Twelve of those 22 points for SAU came from Shiloh Fletcher off the bench, as she was their only spark of offense in the opening 20 minutes. She finished with 17 points on the day, which tied her season high.

However, the Lady Bulldogs made their money in the third quarter as they outscored the Muleriders 19-5 in the frame, holding them to just 2-16 from the field while the Lady Dawgs themselves shot 7-8 (87.5%). Although SAU shrunk its deficit down to just 11 midway through the fourth quarter, SWOSU held firm control and closed out the game on top.

SAU shot just 23.5% from the field (16-68), by far the lowest for a SWOSU opponent, and shot just five free throws, making two.

Elle Papahronis led the Lady Dawgs on the offensive side with 14 points, and Sincere Jackson backed her up with 12. Both Landry Allen and Payten Conde notched an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double, with Allen adding five steals and three blocks.
