Bulldogs Selected Ninth in GAC Preseason Poll

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – SWOSU Men's Basketball has been selected to finish ninth in the annual Great American Conference Coaches Poll, released Thursday.

The Bulldogs received 45 points in the preseason poll, tying Southern Arkansas for ninth place in the conference. Ouachita Baptist topped the rankings with 115 points and seven first-place votes, while Oklahoma Baptist, coming off a Final Four season, finished second with 110 points and five first-place votes.

SWOSU finished last season with an 11-18 record while going 8-14 in conference play, earning the No. 7 seed in the GAC Tournament and making their third straight appearance. The Bulldogs fell to Ouachita Baptist, 74-63, in the quarterfinals to bring their season to an end.

Head Coach Brett Weiberg enters his fourth season at the helm of the Bulldogs and has guided the team to the postseason in each of his three seasons. He has accumulated a 36-49 record during his time in Weatherford.

The 2026-27 roster is made up of six returners, six first-year players and three transfers. The Bulldogs will have to replace three of their top four players in minutes played from last season, creating several opportunities for new faces to step into larger roles.

SWOSU will open the season at the GAC/MIAA Challenge, where the Bulldogs will face Newman and Missouri Southern on November 13-14 in Wichita, Kansas. The Dawgs will play five non-conference games before beginning GAC play on December 3 against Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva.

The GAC Tournament will begin on March 2, with the top four seeds hosting quarterfinal games to determine the semifinal field. The remaining rounds will take place March 6-7 in Enid, Oklahoma.
