MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. – SWOSU Women's Golf tied for fifth as a team with No. 25 Rogers State in the final regular season tournament of year at the Spring Regional Preview.
Freya Sala earned herself a top 2 finish after shooting five-under over the two rounds of play.
No. 27 Henderson State took home the title as the only team who shot under par at -2 through 36 holes. No. 22 Central Missouri took home the silver at +1 as a team. The top six team finishers all held national rankings of 50 or higher according to Clippd Scoreboard, including SWOSU, with four of those representing the Great American Conference.
A slow start for the Lady Dawgs set them back as they shot +20 after just one round to put them in eighth place going into Tuesday's action where they would bounce back to shoot an impressive +3 to bring them back up to a tie for fifth.
Sala once again led the way for SWOSU with her fourth top 3 finish of the year. In the nine tournaments she has participated in this year she has finished 15th or better in all of them. After firing an even par 72 in her first round with 16 pars, she followed that up with an impressive 67 (-5) in her final round which featured three straight birdies from holes 11-13.
Drew Dodgion improved her score by five in the second round to shoot an even par final round. She added nine birdies to her name over the two rounds for the third most of any player in the field.
Ashlyn Acosta finished at +10 and T-39 for the week.
Lucia Rivas and
London Wilson each carded a +15 over the two days with all three Lady Dawgs improving their score between rounds one and two.
With the regular season finished, the Lady Dawgs will now look forward to the GAC Championships that will be held April 21-23 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The Lady Bulldogs have finished third in the past two Great American Conference Championships.
