MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – SWOSU Women's Golf competed in Florida over Spring Break at the Buccaneer Invitational, hosted by Barry University. The Lady Bulldogs finished eighth in the loaded 10-team field.
No. 11 Nova Southeastern beat the field by 26 strokes to earn the win. No. 27 Florida Southern finished second, followed by No. 7 Lynn in third. The Lady Bulldogs entered the tournament with a No. 49 national ranking, according to Clippd Scoreboard's rankings.
Things started great after Monday's opening round. SWOSU was tied for third behind efforts from
Freya Sala, who shot a two-over par 74, and
Drew Dodgion, who shot a 78, as both found themselves inside the top 10.
That team position dropped to ninth after Monday's second round when the Lady Bulldogs added six strokes to their team score while others across the field began to shave strokes off of scorecards. Dodgion was the lone SWOSU golfer who stayed under 80 in that second round.
In the final round on Tuesday, SWOSU shot the same team score as they did in round one and jumped one spot in the final standings. Dodgion led the way again, this time with a 74 (+2) as the lowest score of any Lady Bulldog in any round of the tournament. She ended seventh place individually for her second straight finish inside the top 10 of a tournament this spring. Sala was right behind her with a 75.
London Wilson ended as SWOSU's third finisher. She shot consistent 85-83-84 scores in her rounds.
Ashlyn Acosta was five strokes better than Wilson entering Tuesday before a 93 in round three pushed her back.
Lucia Rivas ended one stroke greater than Acosta.
SWOSU now has one final golf tournament remaining in April prior to the GAC Championships on April 21-23. They'll close out the regular season at the Spring Central Region Preview at Oklahoma's Shangri-La Golf Course on April 7-8.
