WEATHERFORD – The Lady Dawgs opened the 2025-26 season with a win in the GAC/MIAA Crossover, downing Rogers State 65-49.
Landry Allen got the scoring started for SWOSU as the Dawgs opened the game on a 6-0 run. The Hillcats then found some offense of their own, getting to the free-throw line four times. Rogers State eventually led 16-10 after one, but despite being down, the Bulldog defense proved to be tough, holding RSU to 35.7% from the field in the opening frame.
SWOSU's second quarter was the highest scoring quarter for either team, as the Dawgs put up 22 points. Both sides of the ball were firing on all cylinders, as SWOSU forced 10 turnovers, leading to nine points. Midway through the second,
Landry Allen sank back-to-back threes to take the lead at 22-20. Both teams traded blows until an
Elle Papahronis three-pointer gave the Dawgs a 27-24 lead, a lead they would not surrender.
SWOSU's women held RSU to 24 points in the first half, with only eight of those in the second quarter. At the break, the Lady Bulldogs led 32-24. The Hillcats went scoreless over the last 2:55 of the first half.
The strong defense continued in the third quarter, holding the Hillcats scoreless until the 7:38 mark. Bulldog scoring in the third was led by second-year forward
Sincere Jackson, who scored seven of her game-high-tying 17 points in the quarter.
Rogers State started the fourth quarter trailing by 12 points, but quickly erased the deficit. A Hillcat three-pointer with 7:08 to go in the fourth made it a 49-46 ballgame. SWOSU then flipped the switch, closing out the final seven minutes on a decisive 16-3 run, with the three coming at the free-throw line. The Dawgs' defense held RSU to 8-of-30 (26.7%) shooting from the field, and 5-of-20 (25%) from behind the arc in the second half.
Offensively,
Sincere Jackson and
Landry Allen led all scorers with 17 points each. Jackson also completed a double-double with 10 rebounds. Allen also chipped in seven boards and led all players with seven steals.
Elle Papahronis added eight points, as well as 13 rebounds.
The Bulldogs shot a respectable 36.8% from downtown, hitting seven of their 19 attempts. The Dawgs added 22 points in the paint, as well as 20 points off 20 Hillcat turnovers. SWOSU outrebounded RSU 45-29, with 16 of the 45 coming on the offensive end. SWOSU overcame 25 of their own turnovers to earn the win.
The Lady Bulldogs (1-0) will be back in action tomorrow, November 15th, for the second day of the GAC/MIAA Crossover, facing Northeastern State. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m. inside the Pioneer Event Center.
