RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - SWOSU junior linebacker
Shane Armstrong has been named the Great American Conference Defensive Player of the Week for week ten, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The honor marks SWOSU's fourth player of the week award this season and the first of Armstrong's career. He becomes the second Bulldog to receive defensive recognition this year, following
Zack Roberts in Week 4.
Armstrong delivered a breakout performance, recording a season-high 14 tackles—doubling his previous best of seven. He notched nine solo stops, added three tackles for loss that set the Tigers back 10 yards, and registered two sacks on a shifty dual-threat quarterback. Armstrong also forced a fumble that the Bulldogs recovered, anchoring a dominant defensive effort.
SWOSU now sits at 5-5 and looks to secure a winning record for the first time since 2015. The Bulldogs will travel to Alva to face Northwestern in their season finale on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
