SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – In the final tournament of the regular season, SWOSU Women's Golf got a second-place finish from
Megan Brown and finished fourth as a team at the ATU Spring Preview. It's their fifth top-5 placing in nine events this year.
Henderson State won the tournament by 18 strokes over Arkansas Tech and had the top scorer, who beat Brown by eight strokes to win the individual title.
It's the fifth time this season Brown has finished inside the top-10 on the leaderboard. It's also her best finish of the season. She fired a first-round 70 thanks to four birdies and an eagle before back-to-back 75s in rounds two and three. Brown played 12 par 5s in the tournament and was three-under par combined on them, including that eagle.
Nine strokes back from Brown was
Drew Dodgion (21st) who shaved strokes off of every round she played, culminated by a third round 75. Dodgion also eagled in her opening round, helping SWOSU to be the only team with two in the tournament.
Freya Sala and
Rebecca Lau matched each other's final score but did so in different ways. Sala shot consistent scores in her rounds while Lau sandwiched a second-round 71 between two scores of 80 or higher. Lau's 71 was the second-best Lady Bulldog score of the tournament. Both led the team in different categories. Sala had 34 even pars while Lau birdied a team high 12 holes.
Ashlyn Acosta rounded out the team scoring. Her best round came in the first when she carded a 78.
With the regular season completed, SWOSU will shift its focus to the Great American Conference Championships held April 21-23 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The Bulldogs finished third last year at the conference tournament.
