BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – SWOSU got a top-five finish from
Sutton McMillan and placed fourth as a team at the 2024 Great American Conference Championships held at Forest Ridge Golf Club.
Henderson State won the conference title by six strokes over Harding, who topped Southern Arkansas by another 11 strokes. Harding's Dennis Stayov (73-71-73) won the individual title by shooting one-over in three rounds, three strokes less than SWOSU's McMillan.
McMillan began the final round tied for ninth and used a two-under 70 that included four birdies on the back nine to climb all the way to a tie for fourth on the leaderboard. Entering the day, his best finish this season was 31st but he shined when the Dawgs needed it most.
Like McMillan,
Cameron Gallagher also had his best round of golf in Tuesday's final round. He shaved five strokes off his previous best round of the tournament by shooting even par in his final 18 holes and his scorecard reflected that with 16 pars, one birdie, and one bogey. Gallagher finished 15th overall.
Mariano Racca was SWOSU's only other golfer to shoot under 80 in all three rounds. He turned in his best card in Monday's second round, a four-over 76, which could have been even lower had it not been for a triple bogey on No. 2.
Jeric Ortiz and
Anders Strand rounded out the team tied with each other on the leaderboard. Ortiz added strokes to each of his rounds, while Strand stayed consistent with rounds of 79-80-80.
