Baseball Welcomes Harding for Weekend Action

WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Baseball continues conference play this Friday and Saturday with a regularly scheduled three-game series against Harding. Game one is set for 2:00 pm on Friday before the doubleheader closes out the series on Saturday beginning at noon.

The Bulldogs enter the weekend with two straight conference series victories under their belt. They swept Southeastern two weeks ago at home and took two-of-three from East Central in Ada last weekend. SWOSU is 15-8 on the season overall and 7-5 in league play with plenty of baseball left to be had.

Four weeks into GAC action, SWOSU sits tied for fourth in the standings with three other teams. Harding is one of those, with a 13-9 overall record and identical 7-5 mark in conference play.

A year ago, the Dawgs took two-of-three from the Bisons at their place. After dropping the first game by run-rule, SWOSU bounced back to earn wins in games two and three to win the series. While competing in the Great American Conference, SWOSU is 6-9 at home against Harding but have won two of the past three series in Weatherford.

SWOSU's offense is batting .317 on the year which ranks them second in the conference behind Oklahoma Baptist through 23 games. The Bulldogs lead the league with 52 doubles and eight triples and have four of the league's top 11 hitters near the halfway point of the season.

The pitching staff's 4.86 ERA is one of five teams in the league under the 5.00 mark.

Harding features a .297 team batting average (5th GAC) and a 5.07 team ERA (6th). They've committed a league low 19 errors in 22 games.

Michael Dewald leads the lineup batting .416 with four home runs, four doubles, and 14 RBI. On the mound, Davis Welch has logged 37.1 innings with a 2.17 ERA. Maddox Long has also been solid, with a 3.00 ERA and 36 IP.
