ALVA, Okla. – SWOSU women's basketball dropped their third straight Great American Conference game on Thursday night, losing to Northwestern Oklahoma State 72-48.
SWOSU trailed in this one from the tipoff to the final buzzer. The opposing defense made it tough for the Lady Bulldog offense. Their 19 points in the first half is the lowest first half score of the season and their 48 total points is the second lowest scoring output of the year.
The early stages set the tone for the game. SWOSU missed their first five shots and dug themselves a 10-0 hole off the bat. They ended the first quarter 4-18 from the field. The second quarter was not kind to either team. The Rangers shot 1-10 and scored five points, while SWOSU put up nine.
Excluding that five-point third period, the Lady Dawgs allowed 20-plus points in every quarter. A 23-7 run for Northwestern over the majority of the third quarter extended the deficit out to 23 points. That ballooned to as many as 29 late in the fourth.
SWOSU lost the turnover battle for the second time this season, turning the ball over 22 times to Northwestern's 21. It was also the second time in 2023-24 that the Lady Bulldogs committed 20 or more turnovers.
This loss drops SWOSU to 9-8 in GAC play. They will look to shake off the loss when they head to Durant to take on Southeastern Oklahoma State on February 17 at 1:00 pm.
