SWOSU Men's Hoops welcomes Oklahoma Baptist to Weatherford on Thursday in what will be both teams' final action of December.
The Bulldogs survived an overtime scare on Monday against East Central with a 67-66 victory over the Tigers to maintain an unblemished mark inside the Pioneer Event Center. Freshman Kray Rogers had a season high 13 points in the second half and overtime paired with a combined 30 from Tobias Roland and MJ Warrior in the win. Â Â Â
SWOSU shot nearly 43% in the ECU game, making them 5-0 this season when finishing 40% or better from the field.
That 40% shooting mark is all SWOSU has needed thanks to effort on the defensive end. In four conference games, the Dawgs are holding opposing teams to under 64 points and a smidge under 40% shooting – both ranking second in the early going of GACtion. From the three-point line, there hasn't been a team better than SWOSU who has limited four conference opponents to a collective 24% from deep.
On offense, Roland has led the way with 16 points per game on 57% shooting. He's shot 9-of-17 (53%) from beyond the arc against GAC foes. Eli Al-Debaran is tied for the team lead with Roland with 17 three-point makes and is scoring 12.6 points per game. MJ Warrior is right behind him at 12.2 points per game with a GAC fourth best 4.7 assists per game. Against ECU, Jalyn Todd grabbed a season high eight rebounds and tied his season high of five assists from his forward position. Â
SWOSU is a perfect 5-0 at home this season, while Oklahoma Baptist holds a 4-0 mark in conference play.
Oklahoma Baptist enters Thursday as an inverse to SWOSU's defensive numbers nearly across the board. In GAC games, the Bison hold the league's highest scoring average, field goal percentage, and three-point percentage – averaging 81 points per league contest and they're the only team shooting greater than 50% from the floor and 40% from beyond the arc.
They are also tied for second in rebounding (39 rpg) and are outrebounding conference opponents by a league-leading +8 margin.
The Dawgs have lost their last four to OBU and have fallen in 10 of the last 11 games in the series dating back to 2020. The Bison hold an 8-2 series advantage both in Weatherford, and in Shawnee and are 16-5 against SWOSU since the start of GAC competition in 2016. Â
