ALVA, Okla. – Bulldog Baseball closes out the regular season on the road against Northwestern this Saturday and Sunday. The teams will play the doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00 pm and will finish off the series Sunday at the same time after the series was pushed back a day due to weather.
The Dawgs are looking to get back into the win column after falling three times to Arkansas-Monticello last weekend. SWOSU currently sits in ninth place in the conference standings and will need to win and get help in order to qualify for the postseason tournament.
Going into to rivalry weekend SWOSU has lost its last three conference series, whereas Northwestern has won two of its last three, Including a series win against nationally ranked and conference leading Southern Arkansas last weekend.
Heading into the series SWOSU sits 21-25 on the year and 12-18 in GAC play, while Northwestern has a 20-26 overall record and a 10-20 league mark.
SWOSU's lineup struggled to gain momentum last week against UAM, tallying just six runs in three games.
Brooks Red led the offense with a 4-for-11 (.364) showing at the plate in three games.
Entering this weekend
Geoff Marlow is hitting .324 with 12 homeruns and 60 RBI's and has a six-game hitting streak. Recently crowned team MVP
Alex Rice continues to lead the team in hits (63) and the conference in stolen bases (26).
Against UAM, senior
Chris Goldston pitched a career long 8.0 innings and allowed just two runs to earn the win.
Zane Leonard and
Matt Milner pitched a combined 3.0 scoreless innings in relief. Leonard earned his first save of the season in the ninth inning of Goldston's start.
When the Bulldogs and the Rangers met up last season in Weatherford, SWOSU lost the series two games to one by scores of 21-7, 2-13, and 10-11.
