WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Bulldog Baseball comes back home this weekend as they plan to host a three-game Great American Conference series at the SWOSU Athletic Complex against Arkansas-Monticello. The teams will take the field on Friday to play a single game starting at 2:00 pm while finishing out the series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm. Seniors will be honored prior to Saturday's games.
The Dawgs are looking to get back in the win column having gone winless in their last four chances. This series is a pivotal one for SWOSU as they sit two games behind Southeastern for the eighth and final postseason spot with two weekends to play.
Heading into the series SWOSU is 20-23 overall on the year and 11-16 in GAC play, while Arkansas Monticello has a 26-17 overall record and a 16-11 league mark.
The Bulldog offense continues to lead the GAC in batting average despite a cold two week, eight-game span that has seen them go 1-7 and hit just .244 as a team.
SWOSU's 1-3 hitters in the lineup continue to produce in their own ways.
Alex Rice leads the conference in stolen bases (26) and runs scored (58).
Caleb Clines ranks fourth in batting average (.390) and second in on base percentage (.527).
Geoff Marlow ranks second in conference with 60 RBIs and a team-best 12 home runs.
Zane Leonard has emerged as a contributor for the pitching staff after returning from injury. In the last two weeks, Leonard has made four appearances and thrown 6.1 innings. He allowed four runs, but only two of those earned, while striking out seven and walking three.
When the Bulldogs and the Boll Weevils met up last season in Monticello, SWOSU won the series 2-1 by scores of 11-0, 4-12, and 10-8
