#11/6 Muleriders Await Bulldogs

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Bulldog Baseball heads on the road this weekend as they travel to play in a three-game Great American Conference series in Magnolia, Arkansas against Southern Arkansas. The teams will take the field on Friday to play a doubleheader starting at 3:00 pm and will finish out the series on Saturday with a single game starting at 1:00 pm.

The Dawgs are looking to get back to their winning ways in conference play after getting swept by Oklahoma Baptist last weekend at home. They will need to come ready to go out of the gate as they face the current number one team in the conference, Southern Arkansas, who has won their last four conference series and sits ranked nationally in a pair of polls -- ranked No. 6 by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and No. 11 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

Heading into the series SWOSU sits 20-19 on the year and 11-13 in GAC play, while Southern Arkansas has a 27-11 overall record and a 19-5 league mark.

With three conference weekends remaining on the schedule, the Bulldogs currently sit ninth in the standings while the Muleriders hold first place by two games. The top eight teams in the league qualify for the GAC's postseason.

The SWOSU offense rebounded from the weekend with a 16-run performance in their midweek against Southern Nazarene this Tuesday. Geoff Marlow led the way for the Dawgs offense with a home run and double and scored three runs while driving in three. Connor Jeffers delivered when he was called upon, tallying up two hits, three RBI, and crossing the plate to help lead the Dawgs to victory.

Despite a slow series offensively against Oklahoma Baptist last weekend, SWOSU continues to sit atop the conference in many batting statistics including team average, runs scored, hits, and doubles. They also have the fewest strikeouts of any team in the league.

On the mound, SWOSU got three solid showings last weekend from Chris Goldston, Matt Milner, and Bryson Armstrong. Goldston struck out nine in his five-inning start, while Milner and Armstrong combined to allow just two runs in 8.0 innings of relief. Milner and Armstrong then threw in the midweek against SNU and continued their success with another three scoreless innings between the duo.

When the Bulldogs and the Muleriders met up last season in Weatherford, SWOSU was swept by scores of 5-17, 1-5 and 10-14.
