WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Bulldog Baseball comes back home this weekend and will host a three-game Great American Conference series at the SWOSU Athletic Complex against Arkansas Tech. The teams will take the field on Friday to play a single game starting at 2:00 pm and will finish out the series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm.
The Dawgs are on fire and hope to stay that way, as winners of seven of their last eight heading into the weekend. SWOSU sits with a 14-12 overall record and is 8-7 in GAC play. Their league record has them in a five-way tie in fourth place at nearly the halfway point of the conference season.
Having momentum going into this series is huge considering SWOSU faces current conference leader and No. 20-ranked Arkansas Tech who is fresh off a sweep of Northwestern last weekend. The Wonder Boys are 19-9 overall and atop the GAC standings with a 12-3 mark in conference. They boast the third best team batting average in the league at .317 collectively.
Meanwhile, SWOSU sits 14-12 on the year and 8-7 in GAC play.
The SWOSU offense continued its success in the midweek this week against Cameron, crossing the plate a season high 26 times. Over the last eight games, the offense is averaging better than 13 runs per game and has increased the team batting average to .319 which ranks second in the league and just above Tech.
Run production this year could be in large part credited to one of the lineup's catalysts,
Jackson Syring. He leads the GAC in runs scored with 41 and nearly has been hit by more pitches, 17, than the amount of times he's struck out, 18.
The Dawgs pitching staff continues to rely heavily on newly crowned Bulldog of the week
Jackson Phillips (4-1) who sits in the top-10 in the GAC in earned run average at 3.38. Against Harding he threw a complete game, his second of the season, while striking out seven and only allowing two runs.
When the Bulldogs and the Wonder Boys met up last season in Russellville, SWOSU lost the series 2-0 by scores of 3-9, 1-2 with a cancelled third game.
