WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Men's Hoops takes to the road this week and will travel to Arkadelphia, Arkansas where they'll face Ouachita and Henderson State in more conference action.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 1-1 week at home following Christmas Break which included a win over Arkansas Monticello and a loss to Southern Arkansas. This week marks the first time this season SWOSU will play two conference games away from their home floor in Weatherford. The good news is, Ouachita and Henderson State are right across the street from each other – both located in the town of Arkadelphia.
Bulldog Notes
- SWOSU shot, and made, a season high free throws against SAU last week. They finished 28-37, representing their second highest free throw percentage of the season at 75.7%
- The Bulldogs would love to continue making their free throws. They currently sit 12th in the GAC in team free throw percentage at 62.4% collectively. Shooting 75% consistently like they did against SAU would put them third instead
- The Bulldogs won the turnover battle again in both games last week. They've finished with less turnovers than their opponent in 10 of 12 games this season. Both times they have committed more turnovers than their opponent, they have lost (OKB, SNU)
- SWOSU's turnover margin sits at +3.50 on the year, good enough for third in the GAC
- Senior Kamden Gipson continues to lead the offense. He turned in a pair of 16-point scoring performances last week as the leading scorer and is averaging 13.3 points per game on the season which leads the team.
- Gipson is also managing the game at PG. He sits third in the GAC in assist/turnover ratio at 2.0
- Right behind Gipson in team scoring is Ben Smith at 13.2 points per game. He is SWOSU's top scoring option in conference though, averaging a team high 14.7 points against GAC teams
- In GAC games, Jalen Johnson & Mark Berry are both shooting an efficient 50% from the field for the Dawgs. They're a combined 29-58 in six league games this season
- Johnson scored a team high 16 points against UAM last week in 17 minutes of action off the bench. His scoring kept the Boll Weevil comeback at bay in the second half and helped SWOSU maintain its lead
- Nate Goodlow added four more steals to his season sheet last week. He averages 2.5 steals per game and continues to remain at the top of the steals list in the conference and currently sits 13th in the country
- Goodlow has just one game this season where he has not recorded at least one steal
