ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - When the game got tight, the SWOSU Lady Bulldogs basketball team came together and won at Ouachita Baptist, 80-56, closing the game on a 22-6 run.
SWOSU dominated the first quarter and led 19-8. The second quarter was not much different, as the Lady Bulldogs continued to build their lead and gathered momentum going into halftime up 36-21. Ouachita Baptist recorded 17 turnovers in the first half, and in transition, SWOSU scored 18 points off of those turnovers.
Makyra Tramble scored 13 points in the first half.
Despite the slow offensive start in the third quarter, SWOSU managed to hold onto its lead. They were outscored 19-18 in the third quarter, but still led by double digits going into the fourth quarter. Ouachita Baptist got within single digits, but SWOSU closed the quarter on an 11-5 run.
Ouachita Baptist would not go away and cut it to single digits midway through the fourth quarter. SWOSU finally took control and closed the game on a 22-6 run and won the game 80-56. To begin the run, SWOSU's defense clamped down and did not allow Ouachita Baptist to score in over three minutes of game time.
Tramble finished 19 points and recorded five steals.
Bethany Franks scored 17 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double.
Lauren Ramey and
Karly Gore notched 11 points apiece. The Lady Bulldogs did get some help from the bench with 16 points combined from reserves.
SWOSU improves to 21-4 and 15-2 in Great American Conference Play. They'll return to the floor, 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center and will host rival Northwestern Oklahoma State. The game was originally scheduled to be played, February 3, but because of the snow storm it was postponed.
