WEATHERFORD, Okla. – In the final non-conference match of the season, SWOSU Volleyball extended its winning streak to four following a 3-0 sweep of Cameron on Tuesday night inside the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
The win moves SWOSU to 9-8 on the year and over the .500 mark for the first time in 2022. The Bulldogs have concluded their four-game home stand and will be back on the road Thursday and Friday of this week in Arkansas where they will battle Arkansas Tech and a Harding squad receiving votes in the AVCA National Coaches Poll.
Tuesday's match saw a similar theme in all three sets. Both sides battled early and through the middle parts of the set, but it was SWOSU who caught stride in all three frames to distance themselves from the Aggies and take control.
In the opening set, SWOSU trailed 17-15 before closing the set out with 10 of the set's final 11 points.
In set two, SWOSU led 16-14 before another four-point burst that separated them from Cameron. That came right after a five-point run that had put the Dawgs back ahead.
In the third set, SWOSU was cruising comfortably and led 15-7 before the Aggies made things interesting. After Cameron crawled back to trail just 17-16, the Bulldogs finally crushed them for good with five straight points to eliminate any thought of playing additional volleyball.
SWOSU held Cameron to .043 and .030 hitting in the first and third sets and ended up outhitting the Aggies .224 - .092 in the match.
Lacy Mott led the offense with 13 kills (.346) followed by Samantha Kuzma who added 12 (.350).
Taryn Galt's five kills in the opening set led the way for SWOSU, before Mott found rhythm with 12 of her 13 kills in the final two frames. Galt finished with eight kills.
Cameron Turner (21) and Terez Chavez (20) combined for 41 assists on the night. Mott also led in digs. She finished with 16.
The Dawgs did have some trouble with the Aggie block. Cameron had 3.0 blocks in each set played led by a duo who combined to get hands on seven of those.
