WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Bulldog Volleyball returns to the Pioneer Cellular Event Center on Thursday at 7:00 pm for their first match in front of their own fans in over two years.
Â
The Dawgs will face off with #13 Oklahoma Baptist, the two-time defending Great American Conference tournament champions, in their first conference matchup of the year. SWOSU Volleyball couldn't be in better form coming in to this tough matchup after sweeping all four of their games over the weekend and placing three players on the all-tournament team (
Markenzie Benoit,
Allie Hoang, and
Taryn Galt).
Â
"We couldn't be more excited about our home opener on Thursday," Head Coach
Josh Collins said. "We have the opportunity to compete against one of the top teams in the country in front of the greatest fans in DII. We can't wait to play hard for the SWOSU faithful under the beautiful lights of Pioneer Cellular! It should be a great match and we look forward to seeing everyone there!"
Â
In what is sure to be an exciting contest with a powerhouse of the sport in OBU, reigning GAC Offensive Player of the Week
Markenzie Benoit of SWOSU will need to continue to be on top of her game as she faces off against reigning GAC Setter of the Week Kaylee Buell of Oklahoma Baptist. The Bison also have a pair of dangerous attackers in Malia Leatherland and Taneyah Brown who have both accounted for over 80 points already on the season.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist has been the better of the two teams historically, but has had problems beating the Bulldogs in the Dawg Pound. SWOSU has won two of the last four matchups played in Weatherford against the Bison.
Â
Be sure to get there early, as the first 400 people into the stadium will get a free SWOSU Volleyball t-shirt. First serve will be at 7:00 pm at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
