WEATHERFORD, Okla. – For the second time this spring, the Pioneer Cellular Event Center will host Great American Conference postseason competition as the SWOSU Volleyball team has home court advantage for their GAC Tournament Quarterfinal match against Northwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday evening.
SWOSU received the No. 2 seed in the Western Division – which came with a bye into the quarterfinals – while Northwestern had to survive an upset bid from Southeastern Oklahoma State on Tuesday night in an opening round game played in Alva. The Bulldogs enter Thursday night's match with a 6-5 record, which includes a 6-4 mark in GAC Divisional play, while Northwestern is 9-5 on the year and finished 5-5 in league play.
The Bulldogs swept the season series against Northwestern, but each match was hotly contested and took five sets to decide. SWOSU got 17 kills from
Lacy Mott and 15 from
Samantha Kuzma along with a double-double of 45 assists and 24 digs from
Allie Hoang in a late February victory in Alva, before coming back from down 2-1 in the regular season finale to defeat the Rangers just over one week ago in Weatherford. In that match, the Bulldogs were again led by Mott with 22 kills while
Emma Cohalla had 19 kills, 10 digs and 7 blocks on her Senior Night.
This is the 10th straight postseason appearance for the Bulldog Volleyball program and they are 4-5 all-time in the quarterfinal round of the GAC Tournament. SWOSU is 14-5 all-time against Northwestern and 1-0 in the postseason, with a 3-1 victory over the Rangers in the 2015 quarterfinals on their way to the program's lone GAC Tournament Championship.
First serve for Thursday's match is set for 6:00 pm at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center. Admission to the postseason remains by pass list only, so fans unable to attend can find live links for stats and video at
