ADA, Okla. – SWOSU was outscored 23-13 in the third quarter and those 10 points proved to be the difference in the game as the Lady Bulldogs were defeated 79-69 by East Central on Thursday evening at the Kerr Activity Center.
The game was tied in the closing seconds of the first half, but ECU hit a pair of free throws to take a 33-31 lead at the break. The Tigers scored the first seven points of the third quarter and had a lead as high as 15, 56-41, late in the quarter before
Maddy North hit a three-pointer to make it a 12-point game with 10 minutes to play.
SWOSU scored five straight points and cut the deficit to five at 62-57 with 5:34 to play and capped a 6-1 run with a
Makyra Tramble three-pointer that got the Lady Dawgs within one, 70-69, with 1:28 remaining. SWOSU, however, would miss their last five field goal attempts while ECU got two baskets and four free throws to close out the game.
Three players reached double figures in scoring for SWOSU, with Tramble and
Maddie Sperle pacing the Lady Dawgs with 15 points apiece.
Tyra Aska added 13 points and moved into sixth on SWOSU's all-time scoring list, surpassing
Michelle Fisher, who scored 1,446 points for the Lady Bulldogs from 2010-14.
The Lady Bulldogs, now 14-7 (9-6 GAC) on the year, will return to action on Saturday, hosting Oklahoma Baptist. Tipoff of that game has been moved up to 11:00 am to accommodate for a high school tournament at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center later in the day.
