WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Women's Basketball picked up their 20th win of the 2019-20 season on Thursday night by taking down league-leading Harding 83-75. With the win, SWOSU improves to 15-6 in Great American Conference play, which is tied with Harding and Southeastern Oklahoma State at the top of the league standings.
The game was tied at the end of the first and second quarter, but Harding pulled ahead by eight midway through the third quarter. SWOSU again got the score tied, but Harding scored on their final possession to lead 66-64 heading to the fourth.
The Lady Bulldogs trailed 73-66 with 7:07 to play following three made free throws by Harding before
Lauren Ramey hit two straight three pointers and
Tyra Aska hit a free throw to tie it at 73-all with 4:38 to play. SWOSU held Harding scoreless for the final 3:30 and took the lead for good on an and-one from
Maddie Sperle with 2:27 remaining.
Makyra Tramble scored the next four points for SWOSU before Sperle closed it out with two free throws in the closing seconds.
Tramble led a host of Lady Bulldogs who scored in double figures, putting up 18 points on 4-of-7 shooting while knocking down 10-of-12 free throws to go along with seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal. Ramey hit four three-pointers and chipped in 15 points while
Maddy North set a new career-high with 12 points and five rebounds.
Bethany Franks and Sperle added 11 points apiece, with Franks finishing one rebound shy of a double-double while also grabbing five steals.
SWOSU, now 20-7 on the year, now heads into Senior Day with an opportunity to secure at least a share of their third straight Great American Conference Championship with a victory over Arkansas Tech. Tipoff of that game is set for 1:00 pm on Saturday at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
