RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – SWOSU was held without a field goal for the final 4:21 on Thursday evening as Arkansas Tech rallied for a 79-74 victory at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville.
The Bulldogs led for most of the first half, building a lead as high as 17 at 36-19 with 7:31 left in the half before Tech closed the half by outscoring SWOSU 21-4 to head to the locker room tied at 40-all. The game was tied six times in the second half, the final time at 70-70 after
Marquis Johnson knocked down the Bulldogs final field goal with 4:21 to play. ATU scored six of the next seven points to go up 76-71 following a steal and breakaway dunk with 28 seconds remaining and they closed the game out by hitting three of their final four free throws.
SWOSU had two players record a double-double in
Damion Thornton (16 points/12 rebounds) and
Marquis Johnson (12 points/10 rebounds) while
Jaylan Williams (15 points) and
Chris Braggs, Jr., (11) also reached double figures.
Next up for the Bulldogs (8-9, 4-7 GAC) is a trip to Rhodes-Reaves Field House to face Harding on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
