BETHANY, Okla. – Bulldog Baseball heads on the road this weekend as they travel to play in a three-game Great American Conference series in Bethany to take on Southern Nazarene. The teams will take the field on Friday to play a doubleheader beginning on 1:00 pm while finishing out the series on Saturday with a single game starting at 12:00 pm.
With just two more conference series left in the season, SWOSU remains tied with Oklahoma Baptist for sixth place in the conference standings going 14-13 in league play. The Crimson Storm currently ranks 11 in the conference after winning just three conference games this season.
The Bulldogs rank third in the GAC in triples led by
Alex Bedard who has earned five on the season matched with 18 doubles on 54 hits with 15 RBI. SWOSU's shortstop
Alex Pimentel, is hitting .356 connecting on 52 hits, including 10 doubles, two triples and one home run to go along with 30 RBI. Other top hitters include
Tanner Long, who has put up 27 RBI with eight doubles and six homeruns, and
Rafael Villela, who has a .378 batting average with 28 hits, eight doubles, and 16 RBI in just 25 games played.
SWOSU's pitching staff has a 5.97 ERA as a group while opponents are hitting .274 against the Bulldogs. Two-time GAC Pitcher of the Week
Cooper Cantwell has started 11 games this season going 5-4 with a 4.98 ERA striking out 43 batters, while
Tyler Tuck has made 10 starts striking out 38 batters going 6-3 a 4.23 ERA.
Haden Branch and
Jesse Lee both lead the Bulldogs with three saves each with Branch pitching just 16.2 innings and Lee pitching 15.2 innings.
When the Bulldogs and the Crimson Storm met up last season in Bethany, SWOSU swept the series by scores of 10-0, 10-9 and 6-3.
