SWOSU Spotlight: Daniel Eibel

The following story is the latest in a spotlight series of SWOSU student-athletes from the Weatherford Daily News and was published in the newspaper on February 1st.

SWOSU athlete Daniel Eibel, of Grapevine, Texas, is making the most of his senior year at SWOSU.

Eibel, 22, has been playing basketball as long as he can remember, and began playing in leagues in elementary school. He spoke of his transition to a college athlete, and said he had to learn how to mature as a player both on and off the court.

Eibel describes himself as competitive, and says his strengths are shooting the ball and always playing unselfishly. One of his weaknesses he would like to improve on is communicating better with his younger teammates. The best advice a coach has given him is to not get caught up in the previous play, because it will keep affecting the rest of the game.

To prepare for a game, Eibel said he "feels off" if he doesn't have music going to get him ready. As a younger player, he was often anxious but says as a senior he is relaxed and ready for anything.

Eibel said he lives by the quote, "When you feel like stopping, think about why you started."

Now as a senior, Eibel said his goals are to win a conference ring and make it to the NCAA tournament while he still can. Looking back on his time at SWOSU, he said he wishes he had gotten more involved. His advice to incoming athletes is to always prioritize schoolwork, because "in the end, your degree gets you to the places you want to go."
