WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Behind a balanced and efficient offensive effort, the Bulldog Volleyball team defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State 3-0 on Friday at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
The victory completes a season-sweep of the Savage Storm while also securing SWOSU a spot in the 2019 Great American Conference Tournament, which will be played in Hot Springs, Ark., beginning on November 21.
Seven different players had at least three kills for the Bulldogs, who were led by
Sofia Gruden with 10 and
Emily Wood with eight. SWOSU hit .282 as a team with 41 kills against 10 attack errors while holding Southeastern to a .134 hitting percentage with 31 kills and 16 errors. The Bulldogs had statistical advantages across the board, with the widest coming in service aces (10-3) and blocks (6-2).
Kaitlyn Dillon matched a career-high with five service aces in the match while also leading her team with 15 digs.
Allie Hoang had 37 assists to lead the Dawgs while Gruden and
Brylee Burroughs had three blocks apiece.
SWOSU, now 10-3 in league play, becomes the second team to clinch a berth in the GAC Championships, joining Oklahoma Baptist with a solidified spot in Hot Springs. Next up for the Dawgs is a crucial rivalry matchup at Northwestern Oklahoma State next Thursday (Nov. 7) in Alva.
