SEARCY, Ark. – SWOSU Volleyball finished off their weekend road trip to Arkansas with 3-1 victory at Harding on Saturday in a matchup of teams that came into the match tied for second place in the Great American Conference standings.
Much like they did on Friday night at Arkansas Tech, the Bulldogs seized control from the outset and hit efficiently to keep the Lady Bisons on their heels. SWOSU hit .179 in the first set and built an early lead before going into extra points to win it 28-26. The second set saw the Dawgs commit only three hitting errors and they led nearly wire-to-wire before finishing it off at 25-20.
Harding would not go away, however, and they had SWOSU doubled up at 20-10 before a furious rally saw the Dawgs get within one at 22-21. Harding would stop the momentum and finish things off at 25-22 to extend the match to the fourth set. In the fourth, SWOSU again gained control early and never looked back, hitting .319 en route to a 25-21 set win that ended the match.
Maicee Morgan led the Dawgs with 15 kills while
Jenny Tackett had 14 and
Emily Wood and
Brylee Burroughs chipped in with 11 apiece. Wood added a career-high 24 digs for a double-double and she was one of five SWOSU players with 10 or more digs in the match, led by
Kaitlyn Dillon with 25.
Allie Hoang had another double-double with 49 assists and 21 digs while
Josie Pumphrey (12) and
Sophia DeSantiago (11) also reached double digits in digs.
The win is the fifth straight for the Bulldogs, who are now 11-8 on the year and one game out of first place in the GAC at 7-2 in league play. SWOSU steps out of conference play on Tuesday, when they head to Wichita Falls, Texas, to face Midwestern State before returning home next weekend for a pair of crucial conference matchups.
