WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball will face a challenging midweek contest on Wednesday when they bring in a Top 10-ranked Science & Arts (USAO) squad to Weatherford who currently sits No. 8 in the NAIA national standings.
The Bulldogs have already played USAO once this season back on March 13th and handed the Drovers an 8-5 loss – just one of four losses USAO has on the season. SWOSU trailed 4-0 after three innings in that game, but scored eight of the game's final nine runs to claim the victory.
Coming into Tuesday, the Dawgs will be riding a three-game winning streak following a sweep over Southern Nazarene last weekend in Bethany. In that series, SWOSU averaged over eight runs per game and tallied 38 hits in 24 innings.
SWOSU is 4-2 this season in midweek action, picking up wins over Oklahoma Christian and USAO and splitting home-and-away affairs with both Northeastern State and Central Oklahoma.
The offensive lineup has three players hitting above .400 in six midweek contests as
Bryan Miranda (.448),
Brady Burtner (.438), and
Jason Nichols (.412) all have found tremendous success at the plate against midweek pitching. On the mound,
Jose Laboy has seen the bulk of midweek innings by making four starts in six games and adding another bullpen appearance.
SWOSU (19-14, 13-8 GAC) will remain in Weatherford this weekend and host Oklahoma Baptist in a three-game GAC series with serious conference standing implications on the line.
