EDMOND, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball will begin their week on the road on Tuesday when they travel to Oklahoma Christian for a single nine-inning game set to begin at 6 pm.
The Bulldogs are coming off of a Great American Conference series loss to Henderson State last weekend where they fell to the Reddies in two of the three games on the weekend. With less than ideal weather conditions in all three games, SWOSU fell 19-11 in Friday's contest before splitting Saturday's slate by winning game one 19-9 (run rule) and losing 9-4 in the finale.
SWOSU has already notched one win over Oklahoma Christian this season – a 5-1 victory back on March 20 in Weatherford. The Dawgs got a solid outing from starting pitcher
Jose Laboy who threw 5.0 scoreless innings before giving way to
Brooks Pond and
Garret Gaunt out of the bullpen who combined to allow just one run in their two innings apiece.
SWOSU is 4-3 this season in midweek action with a win over Oklahoma Christian and home-and-home series splits with USAO, Northeastern State, and Central Oklahoma.
Laboy, having made five midweek starts this season, is expected to be SWOSU's first arm to trot out to the mound against the Eagles. Laboy holds a 4.34 ERA in midweek games this season, with 22 strikeouts in 18.2 innings pitched and a 1-1 record.
At the plate, the Dawgs are hitting .290 as a team in midweek games led by three players hitting above the .400 mark.
Brady Burtner (.438),
Bryan Miranda (.406) and
Jason Nichols (.400) have all found success this season in midweek affairs, while
Alex Pimentel and
Daniel Richardson have combined to drive in 21 runs in seven games.
This weekend, SWOSU (21-17, 15-10 GAC) will travel to Arkadelphia, Arkansas to take on Ouachita in another three-game GAC series. It will be the final road trip on the schedule before the Dawgs return home against Northwestern the following weekend to close out the regular season.
