ALVA, Okla. – SWOSU was on the wrong side of a 19-2 run in the first half as Northwestern Oklahoma State built an insurmountable lead and held on to defeat the Bulldogs 86-77 on Monday night at Percefull Fieldhouse.
A three-pointer from
Charles Beauregard, Jr. had SWOSU down just 18-16 with 8:44 to play in the half, but that was the point that Northwestern started their run and pushed their lead to 37-17 with 4:48 to play in the half. The Bulldogs deficit would stay at 17 at halftime, with NWOSU taking a 44-27 lead to the break.
Despite trailing by more than 10 points for most of the second half, the Bulldogs never stopped battling an eventually got as close as seven in the final minutes before time ran out on a possible comeback attempt.
In his return following three games missed due to injury,
Devin Pugh led the Dawgs with 20 points and four rebounds. Pugh came off the bench to finish 6-of-13 from the field while hitting 3-of-4 three-point attempts and all five of his free throw attempts. The GAC's leading scorer –
Charles Beauregard, Jr. – was limited to 15 points on a poor shooting night as he knocked down just 5-of-20 attempts from the field.
Cooper Battisti set a new career-high, finishing with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting in reserve action.
SWOSU (4-22, 2-18 GAC) now has two games remaining in the season, starting with Senior Night on Wednesday evening against Oklahoma Baptist. Tipoff of that game is set for 7:30 pm at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center in Weatherford.
