Late Comeback Falls Short for SWOSU at UAM

Box Score (html)

MONTICELLO, Ark. – In the absence of second-leading scorer Devin Pugh, SWOSU's Jefkins Agyeman-Budu scored a career-high 20 points while Charles Beauregard, Jr. put up 31 points in a losing effort on Saturday afternoon at Steelman Field House as Arkansas-Monticello defeated the Dawgs 87-82.

Arkansas-Monticello led throughout, building a lead as high as 12 in the first half before going to the break with a 35-25 advantage. UAM would run the lead to 16 early in the second half, leading 47-31 with 15:06 to play, but they could not put the scrappy Bulldogs away. SWOSU finally cut the deficit to single digits in the final five minutes, eventually getting as close as four at 78-74 after a three-point play by Beauregard, but UAM put the game away at the free throw line in the closing seconds.

Beauregard led the way with a game-high 31 points, marking his fourth 30-point game of the season – all coming in the last seven games. Agyeman-Budu stepped up with 20 points and eight rebounds in 38 minutes of action while Justin King chipped in 13 points and Nick Shoemaker knocked down a pair of three-pointers as part of is 10-point performance.

With the loss, SWOSU falls 3-20 on the year and 1-16 in Great American Conference action – which mathematically eliminates the Bulldogs from being able to qualify for the GAC Tournament. SWOSU will finish the season with five games against in-state rivals, starting on Thursday evening when they host Southeastern Oklahoma State.
