NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Former SWOSU standout Trevon Hartfield is one of five players signed by the Tennessee Titans following the team's rookie minicamp over the weekend. The move was announced by the team on Monday morning.
Hartfield spent his first professional season with the Arizona Cardinals, but was released by the team last Wednesday prior to their rookie minicamp. He appeared in two regular season games last season for Arizona, but did not record any stats in victories over Seattle and Los Angeles. In the preseason, Hartfield made seven tackles, with three passes defended and one interception, which led to him being signed to the Cardinals practice squad until Week 16, when he was promoted to the Active Roster.
Hartfield was named a First Team All-Great American Conference selection for the Bulldogs in 2015 after leading the league and setting a new conference record with 25 passes defended. He led SWOSU with five interceptions and broke up 20 passes, while also ranking third on the team with 73 tackles. Hartfield also tallied 2.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and 264 yards on 10 kickoff returns for the Bulldogs. After recording 10 tackles and two interceptions against Arkansas Tech, Hartfield was named the GAC Defensive Player of the Week on November 9th and he helped his team finish off the regular with a victory at Northwestern Oklahoma State by recording a career-best 14 tackles.
A native of Watonga, Okla., Hartfield became the first SWOSU Football player to appear in a regular season NFL game since 1987 when he suited up for the Cardinals last season. He also became the second former Bulldog under head coach
Dan Cocannouer to make it to the practice squad of an NFL team, joining wide receiver Johnathan Haggerty, who spent time with the Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots and Chicago Bears, who signed him to their practice squad in December 2011.
