Baseball takes on Reddies in Pivotal GAC Matchup

Setting the Scene
- SWOSU Baseball (15-19, 11-11 GAC) travels on the road to Arkadelphia, Ark. to take on Henderson State in another GAC series that has conference positioning at stake
- The schedule has been updated, as the teams will play the doubleheader on Friday at 3:00 and 6:00 before concluding the series at 1:00 on Saturday
- With just three series left in the regular season, the Reddies sit one spot ahead of SWOSU in conference standings

- On the mound, the staff holds a 4.22 ERA led by Bryant Haralson who has a team-best 2.23 ERA in 64.2 innings of work  

The Coaches
SWOSU: Zack Saunders (149-120, 6th season)
- Two-time Great American Conference Coach of the Year, winning the award in 2013 and 2016
- Inducted into the Muskogee Athletic Hall of Fame on October 13, 2016
- Earned his 100th career victory at SWOSU against Northwestern Oklahoma State on April 24, 2015
- Previously served as an assistant at SWOSU for six seasons under former Bulldog coaches Charles Teasley and Scott Selby
- Played collegiately at Kansas State following two seasons at Connors State playing on nationally-ranked junior college teams
 
Henderson State: Cody Hooten (167-173-1, 7th season)
- In 2015, Hooten and Reddies became the first team from the GAC to advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships after winning the Central Regional in St. Cloud, Minnesota
- He is in his seventh year as Henderson State's head baseball coach after serving three years as an assistant coach for the Reddies

- SWOSU who was hitting .239 on the season collectively, batted .350 last weekend against the second-best pitching staff in the conference in Oklahoma Baptist
- Connor Anderson, Rogelio Sanchez and Rafael Otero all hit over .500 in the three-game series
- Ruben Rodriguez and Justin Freeman belted their first homeruns of the season in game one when the Dawgs run-ruled OBU 21-11 in eight innings
- The 21 runs was the most runs SWOSU has scored in the Zack Saunders' era, and was the most runs put up since 2010 when the Dawgs scored 20 against East central
- Joel Baxley broke a six-game hitless streak when he blasted a homerun in the first game on Saturday
- Quintin Dougherty picked up his fifth save of the season in the final game of the series
- Richard Marches and Ted Wisdom were the run producers in that third game, accounting for five of the six runs batted in during the contest
