WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Volleyball swept its midweek opponent Science & Arts (USAO) on Monday night in non-conference play with a pair of 1,000-career stat milestones in the process from
Kodee Avery and
Kaitlyn Dillon.
Avery got her achievement out of the way on the 24th point of the opening set, giving teammate
DeLayni Fine a ball she could slam home for her 11th assist – the number she was chasing when the night began. She becomes the eighth player in Bulldog Volleyball history to reach the four-digit assist number.
Dillon came into the match needing seven digs for her mark, and got it almost exactly one set later on set-point, digging up her seventh ball of the match during a long rally that would go to the Dawgs. She is now one of just five players in school history who have at least 1,000 digs – and is only a sophomore.
SWOSU was clicking offensively, hitting .354 as a team with at least 14 kills in each set. In three sets, the Bulldogs outscored the Drovers 75-40 and only gave their lead away three times in the entire match – all of which during the early stages of a set.
Fine led the attack with 17 kills as the only player to break into double digits. Dillon and
Allie Hoang both tied for the lead with 10 digs on defense, while
Jenny Tackett defended at the net with four blocks. Avery ended with 22 assists on the night, while also tying Tackett with four blocks and added five digs to her statsheet.
"I thought that we did a good job of playing SWOSU Volleyball tonight, we stayed the course and focused on the things on our side of the net," SWOSU Head Coach
Josh Collins said after the match. "I'm happy for Kodee and Kaitlyn, they are both great kids and I know that both of them would attest any of their success back to their teammates which is what makes it fun for us to celebrate with them."
The Bulldogs will turn their attention back onto conference play. They are set to host Ouachita Baptist on Friday night inside the Pioneer Cellular Event Center at 6 pm, and will turn around to welcome Henderson State on Saturday afternoon at 1 pm.
